Chartered Marketer status is awarded by CIM in recognition of practical experience and expertise and sound theoretical knowledge. It can only be held by Full Members or Fellows of CIM who are committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

By becoming a Chartered Marketer you will:

Pre-requisites

Criteria for Chartered Marketer status:

• Be a full Member (MCIM) or Fellow (FCIM).       

• Have completed 2 consecutive years of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Full members of CIM have three years relevant marketing experience, including one year's experience in marketing resource management.  Fellows in addition must have a proven record of expertise and success in marketing roles and have held a senior position in marketing for at least five years.

• THEN you complete your own programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) - involving at least 35 hours of approved CPD per year - over two consecutive years.                 

• THEN you make a commitment to lifelong learning to maintain your pedigree as a top-flight professional marketer. Your commitment involves continuing at least 35 hours of approved CPD annually. The CPD year runs from July 1st to June 30th.

To remain on the CIM Chartered Marketer register you maintain your own record of CPD activity such as taking part in recognised training courses or marketing events - in person or online - and submit your record with supporting evidence to CIM annually. CIM audits 10 per cent of all existing Chartered Marketers at random. 

Tip for Associate Graduate Members 

If you're a CIM Associate Graduate member (ACIM) you can amass CPD hours NOW. You'll have to be a Full member to be awarded Chartered Marketer status, but collecting your hours NOW, and submitting your card annually could save you two years!
